Virpazar is a charming village in Montenegro, located where rivers Crmnica and Orahovštica meet and flow into Skadar Lake. Known for its fertile region and favorable climate for agriculture, it thrives in growing vine, olives, fruits, and vegetables. The village serves as a starting point for boat excursions on the beautiful Skadar Lake. With a rich history dating back to the 13th century, Virpazar was once a trading hub and later became an important market town. The iconic Besac fortress, built by the Turks in the 15th century, still stands above the village. Virpazar offers easy access from Podgorica through a highway and a railroad. Visitors can explore the village’s circular layout, visit the old drinking well in the town square, and indulge in local products at the Friday market. A short walk leads to the well-preserved Besac Castle, offering panoramic views of Virpazar and the marshy surroundings.
